Overview

Overall Objective:  Responsible for managing the local and remote maintenance facility and oversee shop administrative tasks that are the result of preventive maintenance and repairs. The Director of Maintenance oversees the shop supervisor and technicians to ensure the business unit aligns with overall business objectives, safety, DOT and CSA demands.

 

Working relationship:  Reports to President.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Manages fleet preventive maintenance;
  • Resolves driver complaints regarding company equipment;
  • Ensures that each direct report understands the company objectives;
  • Works with executive management to develop strategies to cost-effectively grow the fleet and to handle additional equipment requirements;
  • Develops and maintains a shop budget to ensure proper costs and adjustments are applied to services as well as to report to finance;
  • Ensures the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution, and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding service maintenance operations;
  • Creates, manages, and keeps current on all processes and procedures related to work functions and DOT compliance;
  • Works with executive team on strategic fleet and transportation planning, including managing capital expenditure (Fleet) and strategic IT initiatives (GPS, RFID, QUALCOMM, and other Transportation Planning Systems);
  • Researches and establishes working relationships for maintenance vendors to handle breakdowns of vehicles in service on-the-road;
  • Ensures safety procedures are well developed and appropriate for the service maintenance shop and that they are implemented;
  • Maintains service and maintenance records of all vehicles.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical services/engineering on diesel engines or equivalent combination of education and skills;
  • 3+ years of previous work experience in a commercial vehicle maintenance  facility in a supervisory capacity;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Understanding of the Transportation Industry and the associated knowledge to keep the tractors and trailers in good mechanical repair;
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and requirements as well as CSA initiatives;
  • Project management skill to plan and manage projects and processes as well as allocate resources, monitor progress, and establish associated budgets;
  • Strong skills in managing a group of maintenance technicians;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Strong computer skills
